caveman-compress is an agent skill that rewrites natural-language files like CLAUDE.md or todo lists into terse 'caveman-speak' to reduce input tokens, overwriting the original while keeping a readable backup. It defines strict rules: code blocks and certain content must be preserved exactly, and only text files (.md, .txt, .typ, .tex, extensionless) may be compressed.
Use it when memory files grow large and you want to cut the tokens they consume each session without losing the underlying instructions.
Use it to
- Compress CLAUDE.md to shrink per-session input tokens
- Shorten long todo lists in an agent workspace
- Compress preference or notes files while backing up originals
- Reduce context size of .md and .txt documentation
